To keep costs low

If you have no claims in 3 years, you can qualify for a claims free discount! This is usually around 15% of the insurance on the home. So try to take care of any risks around your home, for example, by shovelling snow around the edge of your house.

If you have a monitored security system, this can reduce your rates by up to 20%. Just get us the certificate and we add the discount.

If you increase your deductible to $1000 from $500, it saves you about 15%.

If you allow an insurance company access to your credit score, it could save you up to 30% on your home insurance. And if you have a bad credit score, depending on your company – it could still save you money just by allowing them access.

Loyalty discounts can occur when you’ve been with the same insurance company for a number of years.

Newer and more premium shingles can get you a discount because of their ability to better withstand hail storms and wind storms.

If you install a mainline backwater valve, that can save you money on your sewer backup premium.

Newer homes may be eligible for a discount due to upgraded building codes that are better for insurance claims.

Fun Facts

New coverages are offered all the time: Service line coverage pays up to $10,000 coverage if one of your service lines collapses.

Did you know: the leading cause of insurance claims in Canada is now due to water – usually either flood or sewer backup – not fire.

Have you heard of the ‘obsolescence clause’? There is currently a coverage called Prestige with SGI that allows you to remove this coverage. It also gives you faster claims service.

Did you know there is a type of fire called a protein fire? This creates an issue because the smell gets into some items and cannot be taken out. Those items must be replaced – this increases the cost of a claim.

When you have damage to one side of your home from hail, the obsolescence clause provides that only that side is replaced whether it matches your old siding or not.

Prestige bumps up that coverage so that if you can’t match your old siding, all of it is replaced.
